GEMIA provenance creates a tamper-resistant digital passport for every jewellery piece — from responsible sourcing to certified ownership, forever recorded on the blockchain.
Each stage of a piece's life is encoded as an immutable transaction on Hyperledger Fabric. Select any step to explore what's recorded.

Step 1 · Origin
Responsible Mining & Sourcing
The provenance journey begins at the source. Before any stone or metal enters the GEMIA supply chain, its conflict-free origin is verified and recorded — permanently.
Kimberly Process certification for natural diamonds
LBMA Good Delivery chain of custody for gold and platinum
Origin country, mine name, and extraction date logged
ESG audit score from RJC-aligned supplier recorded on-chain
Every stone is independently graded by a recognised laboratory before manufacture. Report numbers are cryptographically embedded in the GEMIA token — making fraud mathematically impossible.
GIA or IGI grading report number embedded in token metadata
Full 4Cs: Cut, Colour, Clarity, Carat weight
Treatment and enhancement disclosure (heat, fracture fill)
Inclusion mapping and proportion data archived

Step 3 · Workshop
Artisan Manufacture
Workshop identity, hallmark details, designer signature, and quality inspection milestones are logged as the piece is crafted. Each stage of manufacture has its own block.
Artisan workshop name, location, and certification status
Metal hallmark: fineness, assay office, and year letter
GEMIA QC inspection pass logged with inspector ID
Designer signature and collection attribution
Block Record
Type: CRAFT_RECORD
Workshop: Hatton Garden, UK
Hallmark: Pt950 · London 2026
QC: PASS · Inspector G12
Step 4 · Minting
Blockchain Token Minting
A digital passport — containing all origin, certification, and craft records — is minted as an NFT on Hyperledger Fabric. A unique Token ID is issued and a physical QR tag is applied to the piece.
Token minted on Hyperledger Fabric v2.5 (permissioned blockchain)
Unique Token ID issued: GEMIA-YYYY-NNNN-XXX format
Physical GEMIA QR tag bonded to the physical piece
At the moment of purchase, ownership is transferred on-chain. Every subsequent sale, gift, inheritance, or insurance claim is logged. The complete history travels with the piece, forever.
Ownership transfer recorded with date, time UTC, and method
Physical delivery receipt hashed and linked to transfer event
Certificate emailed and accessible via GEMIA dashboard
Subsequent resale, gift, or estate transfers auto-logged

RJC Alignment — Responsible Jewellery Council
All GEMIA supply-chain partners are screened against RJC Code of Practices standards. ESG due-diligence reports are accessible via the xLEDGER compliance dashboard.
GEMIA applies a premium, international sourcing standard across every stone and metal. Compliance is not a checkbox — it is recorded permanently on-chain.
💎
Kimberly Process
All natural diamonds sourced under the KP Certification Scheme. Origin country, mine operator, and export licence are logged at the point of token minting — creating a permanent conflict-free record.
⚗️
Lab-Grown Disclosure
Growth method (CVD or HPHT), origin laboratory, and full treatment history disclosed in the blockchain record — no ambiguity, no greenwashing, no missing data.
🌱
ESG Due Diligence
Supplier ESG audit scores are embedded in xLEDGER records. Carbon footprint per piece and scope 3 emissions data available for enterprise clients through the xAPI.

Digital Ownership
Your jewellery. On the blockchain.
Every GEMIA piece is tokenised on Hyperledger Fabric — a permissioned, enterprise-grade blockchain. Unlike public NFTs, GEMIA tokens are private, legally binding, and linked to physical ownership documents.
📜
Immutable Ownership History
Every sale, gift, or inheritance transfer is permanently logged. No record can be altered or deleted — the piece carries its entire history forever.
🛡️
Insurance-Ready Certificates
GEMIA certificates are accepted by leading UK insurers for scheduled item cover. Our reports meet the evidential standard for HMRC probate and estate declarations.
💹
Certified Resale Premium
Blockchain-certified pieces command a significant premium on the GEMIA Marketplace — buyers pay more for provenance certainty. Your certificate is your asset.
⚖️
Estate & Probate Support
Digital records satisfy solicitor and HMRC requirements for jewellery asset declarations in wills, probate, and inheritance tax filings.

Common Questions
Everything you need to know
A paper certificate can be copied, altered, or destroyed. A GEMIA blockchain certificate is minted as a cryptographically signed token on Hyperledger Fabric — it cannot be altered, duplicated, or removed. Every change to the record (sale, re-valuation, estate transfer) is appended as a new immutable transaction, creating a tamper-evident audit trail that lasts as long as the blockchain itself.
Yes. GEMIA certificates include the grading report number, current market valuation, metal and stone specifications, and a full ownership history — all the data major UK insurers require for scheduled item cover. Many of our clients use their GEMIA certificate directly when adding jewellery to a home contents or specialist jewellery policy. We recommend checking with your specific insurer, but our certificates are structured to meet standard evidential requirements.
Your certificate lives on the Hyperledger blockchain — not on GEMIA's servers. Even if GEMIA ceased to exist, the token remains on the distributed ledger and can be independently verified by any node operator or blockchain explorer with access to the GEMIA channel. We also provide clients with a downloadable PDF and JSON export of their full certificate at the time of authentication, which is independently verifiable offline.
Absolutely. The xVAULT Re-Certification service (£180/item) is designed exactly for this. A GIA-certified GEMIA gemologist will physically assess your piece, update or create a grading report, and mint a new blockchain token recording your ownership and the current certified specifications. This is particularly valuable for inherited jewellery, antique pieces, or items purchased without documentation.
Certified provenance significantly improves resale liquidity and price. On the GEMIA Marketplace, blockchain-certified pieces consistently achieve 15–30% higher sale prices compared to equivalent uncertified pieces, because buyers have complete confidence in grade, origin, and ownership history. Buyers with GEMIA VIP Gold membership also receive a 10% resale advantage — meaning their certified pieces are actively promoted to our highest-value buyer segment first.
GEMIA uses Hyperledger Fabric — a permissioned, private blockchain — not a public chain like Ethereum. Your personal details are never written to the public ledger. Ownership records use anonymised wallet identifiers, not names or addresses. All personal data is processed and stored in compliance with UK GDPR (Article 6(1)(b)) on encrypted, ICO-registered infrastructure. The public-facing certificate shows stone and certification data only.
Authentication enquiries may be reviewed privately. The intended service includes a digital blockchain certificate, physical GEMIA provenance card, and permanent on-chain record — valid for insurance, resale, and estate purposes.
